BabySteps Explanation on Why and How to Take Charge of Your Mental Health and Social well-being.

 Many people in parts of the world take their mental and social well-being for granted.Cultural inhibition,  fear of stigmatization, lack of information/inadequate information on the importance of ones mental health on overall well-being, lack of /inadequate mental health facilities, government policies and bureaucracies are some major factors that downplay the importance and attainment of mental and social well-being.

Despite all these the good news is that you can still strive in health, illness, and well-being.But only you can decide and take charge. The question is how and where can you start from?

BabySteps-PsychMag is a Psychology blog designed for people from all works of life to create a step by step [BabySteps] awareness about the importance of taking care of your mental health and social well-being by providing down-to-earth   information on  how your behaviour and mental processes influence and control your overall well-being,including Why,When,Where, and How to get help on time.

 What Is The Meaning of Psychogy?
 The scientific study of behaviour and mental processes is what psychology as a discipline is all about. Our  thought processes and behaviour  shape our personality and social well-being or the way we relate socially.

What Areas of Our Lives Concern Psychology?
Infact, psychology as a discipline permeates every aspect of human activities and experiences;
  • From how our  brain functions and process information
  • To child development
  • And those turbulent adolescent years
  •  To aging and care of the aged and death
  • , From politics and nation building
  • To lifestyle in general
  • And every other conceivable setting.
The goal of psychologists is to describe, explain, predict and to influence or control  behaviour and mental processes.

Our environment as well as our genetic disposition play a large role in shaping our experiences, invariably our day-to- day experiences influences our behaviour. In turn the way we behave impact directly or indirectly on our mental health, illness and over all well-being.

That is why the World Health Organization, [WHO] in 1948,defined health as "a state of complete mental and social well-being and not just merely the absence of disease or infirmity".Note:This definition have not been amended since April 7th,1946]. Also worthy of note is how the WHO definition of a completely healthy person lay emphasis on "mental and social well-being".

 That means the absence of physical illness caused by either biologically driven pathogens such as bacteria, viruses or chemical imbalance and genetics  is no sign that an individual is fundamentally in good health. If that is the case, it is safe to say that no one is completely healthy.

The big question is:Is it rely possible to achieve a state of complete mental and social well-being?
