I have consistently pointed out on this blog that our overall health is linked with the inter-relationship between our physical, social and mental welling based on WHO’s definition of health HERE .

However, no matter how much time you devote to improving your mental, emotional and physical health, you will still need the company of others to feel and be your best in order to achieve optimum health.

Therefore, a lack of good social health may lead to feelings of loneliness, boredom, or generally unhappiness that can weigh us down mentally.So what is social well-being and how can you improve your social life?

What is Social Health/Wellness?

Social well being involves a person's relationships with others and how that person communicates, interacts and socializes with other people. It can also relate to how people make friends and whether they have a sense of belonging.
Social Wellness is also our ability to maintain healthy, supportive relationships with other people. And by improving your social health skills, you will be able to make choices that lead to positive interactions and enhance harmony in your personal relationships.

Effects of Bad Social Health

Reports have documented how poor social health results in:
  •  Sickness and disease. 
  • Isolation and loneliness caused by a poor support network doubles your risk of death within any time period, at any age – a risk greater than smoking cigarettes!

Social Interaction Linked to Your Physical and Emotional Health

Improving your social support is linked to better mental health in general, since having good friends can act as a “buffer” for feelings of anxiety and low mood. 
Research has demonstrated that regular social interaction leads to improvement in all areas of your life. When you make the choice to improve your social health, you will perform better under stress, boost your self- esteem, increase your energy levels, highly improves our immune system, overall mood and achieve better overall physical health.
